Chronic Low Back Pain & Weight Management

  • Ongoing or recurring low back pain
  • Pain may worsen with activity or prolonged sitting
  • Often linked to excess weight or obesity
  • Symptoms may limit work, daily activities, or quality of life

At FutureSearch Trials, we conduct clinical research studies for adults living with chronic low back pain and overweight or obesity.

Chronic low back pain can be painful, frustrating, and may worsen when combined with excess weight. To qualify for our research study, participants must be over 18, have low back pain most days for at least 6 months, and have a minimum BMI of 27 or higher. Additional health and medication criteria will be reviewed during the screening process.

If you’re living with back pain and struggling with weight and interested in participating, please complete the form above or give us a call to see if you may qualify for our chronic low back pain and weight management study. Eligible participants may receive study-related care at no cost and compensation for time and travel.

What is Chronic Low Back Pain?

Chronic low back pain is pain in the lower back that lasts for six months or longer. Unlike occasional backaches, chronic pain is ongoing, often returning day after day and making it hard to sit, stand, or sleep comfortably. Many people describe the pain as aching, stiffness, or sharp discomfort that may worsen with movement or prolonged sitting.

Being overweight or obese can increase the strain on the spine, muscles, and joints, which may make back pain more frequent and more severe. This combination of back pain and excess weight can affect work, physical activity, mood, and overall quality of life.
