What is Pediatric Autism?

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a developmental condition that affects how people see, interact, communicate, learn, and behave with and around others. It’s characterized by differences in communication, restricted interests, and repetitive behaviors that cause problems with how they get along with others socially. It is a broad term that includes Asperger’s syndrome, Autism, and pervasive developmental disability (PDD). All these conditions are caused by changes in the brain that affect how a child behaves, communicates, and interacts.

This disorder begins in early childhood and is often characterized with specific behaviors and actions such as not responding to their name, being irritable, having poor eye contact and no expression on their faces, inability to speak or delayed speech, stiff, unusual or exaggerated body language and are passive, aggressive or disruptive when interacting with others amongst a host of other symptoms. If your child or you know a child with autism spectrum disorder, we encourage you to explore our study options and get the help you need.
